Over the past few months we’ve been reviewing our pricing across day entry and memberships. After holding our prices steady for as long as possible, we now need to make some changes from 1 January 2026.

We know price increases are never welcome news and we want to be open about why this is happening. Like many small businesses, we’re feeling the pressure of rising costs, especially following the recent UK budget. Utilities, insurance, equipment, staffing and café goods all continue to increase, and as a not for profit climbing gym every penny we make goes straight back into the business and the community it serves.

Despite these challenges, we remain committed to keeping climbing as accessible as we can. If money is ever a barrier, please reach out or apply for support through our Community Climbs CIC, which uses charitable donations from our community and Boulder Shack to help people access climbing.

What’s changing?

Below is a summary of the new prices that will come into effect on 1 January 2026.

Product / Entry Type Old Price (off-peak / on-peak) Price from 1st of January 2026 (off-peak / on-peak) Adult Single Entry £10.50 / £13.50 £12 / £14 Concession Single Entry £8.20 / £10.50 £9.50 / £11 Adult Monthly Membership £42 / £53 £49 / £55 Concessions Monthly Membership £30 / £40 £37 / £43 Junior Add-on Membership £9.50 £11 Unlimited Classes Add-on £7 £8 Adult Annual Membership £370 / £470 £490 / £550 Concessions Annual Membership £260 / £360 £370 / £430 Junior Add-on Annual Membership £95 £110 Older & Boulder £5 £7 Classes Only Membership £24 £25 Gym Only Membership £8.95 £9.95 Shoe Hire £3.80 £3.50 On-peak Upgrade (when using off-peak membership during on-peak) £2.50 £3.50

You’ll notice that our off peak prices have increased more than our peak prices. We want to be open about the reason for this. Many climbing centres have already removed off peak pricing altogether, and we did consider whether we could continue offering it. We’re pleased to say that we can, but only by reducing the level of discount we previously applied. Keeping an off peak option matters to us because it provides a more affordable way to climb during quieter times on weekdays before 4pm. Adjusting this discount has also allowed us to limit how much our peak prices needed to rise, which we feel gives the fairest balance for most of our community.

We’re also aware that our annual memberships are increasing more noticeably this year. Even with that change, they remain the best value way to climb at Boulder Shack, saving the equivalent of two free months of membership each year which works out to more than 16 percent off compared with paying monthly. We still believe our annual passes offer excellent value for regular climbers while helping us keep the centre sustainable for the long term.

Increases to café pricing

The cost of goods for our café has risen sharply this year. To keep the café running sustainably and maintain quality, we’ll be updating prices over the next month. These changes will roll out gradually, rather than all at once.

What we’ve improved this year

Even in a tough year, we’ve kept investing in the centre because we want Boulder Shack to feel great every time you visit. In 2025 we have:

  • Improved and expanded the gym area with new equipment
  • Updated our membership management system for a smoother experience when joining, managing memberships and booking classes
  • Purchased new climbing holds to keep the routes fresh and interesting
  • Revamped the reception hallway to create a more welcoming entrance
  • Replaced and upgraded sections of the matting around the centre
  • Supported local youth and charity groups with discounted sessions
  • Provided free community space for mental health groups and other community projects

What’s coming in 2026

We’re not slowing down. Next year we plan to:

  • Revamp the reception desk
  • Continue supporting our local community as much as we can
  • Invest in new climbing holds (as always)
  • Refresh the café seating area
  • Expand our fitness class offering
  • Explore improvements and redevelopments to parts of the climbing walls

As a not for profit, these improvements are possible only because of your memberships and visits. You fund everything we do.

Your membership is worth more than ever

If you’re a Boulder Shack member, don’t forget you now get one free visit every month to any other ICWC partner wall across the country. The ICWC was set up this year by Tim Miller, our founder and managing director, to strengthen independent climbing walls and give members better value than ever.

If you haven’t used your free monthly visit yet, make the most of it.
