Safeguarding

Children and adults at risk should be safe here, and should feel safe here. This is what we do about that, and who to tell if something is wrong.

Who to tell

Our designated safeguarding lead is Marisa Lee. If you are worried about a child or an adult at risk, at the centre or connected to it, tell her, tell any member of staff, or email team@bouldershack.co.uk and ask for the safeguarding lead.

You do not need to be sure. You do not need proof. Tell us what you saw and let us work out what to do with it. Nobody has ever been in trouble for raising something that turned out to be nothing.

If somebody is in immediate danger, ring 999 first and tell us afterwards.

What we do

In practice, safeguarding here means:

  • A named designated safeguarding lead, and a deputy, who are trained and contactable whenever we are open.
  • DBS checks on staff and volunteers whose roles require them, at the level the role requires.
  • Coaches who work with under 18s are trained and qualified for it.
  • Clear supervision rules: under 14s climb with a responsible adult present, and 14 to 17 year olds climb unsupervised only once they have been signed off.
  • A written record of every concern raised, kept securely and shared only with those who need it.
  • [CONFIRM: the full safeguarding policy document, its review date, and the name of the deputy safeguarding lead.]

Photography and filming

We take photographs and film at the centre, for our own website and social media. Nobody has to be in them.

If you would rather you or your child were not photographed, tell the desk and we will make sure of it. If a picture of you is already up and you want it taken down, email us and we will remove it, no explanation needed.

Our full media terms are on their own page.

If you are under 18

You are allowed to tell an adult here that something is wrong, and you are allowed to be listened to properly when you do. Any member of staff in a Boulder Shack top will help you find the right person.

Outside agencies

Where we have to, we will pass a concern to Southampton City Council social care or to the police. We will tell you if we are doing that, unless telling you would put somebody at more risk.

[CONFIRM: the local authority safeguarding contact numbers to publish here, and whether the centre is registered with any national scheme such as the BMC or ABC safeguarding framework.]
