Kids from 4, with a grown up

Bring the kids. Any day we are open.

Children from age 4 can climb whenever we are open, as long as an adult is supervising. You do not have to climb yourself, though most people end up having a go.

How many children can one adult bring?

It depends on how old they are. These are the limits for everybody, every day, and we cannot bend them at the desk.

  • Aged 4 and 5

1 to 1one adult for each child

No exceptions. An adult looking after a 4 or 5 year old cannot supervise anybody else, and that includes a child who is not climbing.

  • Aged 6 to 17

1 to 2one adult for two climbers

Two climbers is the most one adult can supervise. Bringing three? You will need a second adult.

  • Under 4

Not yetthe youngest age to climb is 4

Little ones are welcome to come along, and need to stay within arm’s reach of you the whole time.

Getting started

Two ways in. Which one are you?

It depends on whether the adult coming along already climbs.

  • Most families

    New to climbing

Book an induction and do it together. A coach shows you all how it works and teaches you how to look after your climbers. After that, come whenever you like.

    • Children climb in the induction too.
    • Only supervising? There is a cheaper ticket for an adult who is not climbing.
    • Book one adult and one child, and every child after that is half price.
  • Regular, recent experience

    You already climb

Watch our safety video and fill in the waiver for yourself and each child. Then just turn up and pay for day passes at the desk.

    • The waiver takes two minutes and can be done at home.

The rules

What supervising means.

Supervising means being able to see your children the whole time. It is how we keep the wall safe and relaxed for everybody.

  • Stay where you can see them, every minute they are on the mats.
  • The adult who is supervising needs to know what to look for: either you already climb regularly, or you have done an induction with us.
  • From 14, teenagers can be signed off to climb without an adult.

When they get the bug.

If your child cannot get enough, the Junior Climbing Club is a weekly coached session with the same friends every week. And for the under fives there is Climbing Tots.

FAQs

Questions people ask.

Anything else, ring us on 02380 171 808.

  • What should I wear?

Anything you can move in. Leggings, shorts, a t-shirt, whatever is comfortable. Climbing shoes are £3.50 to hire, free with any membership, and we have them in every size, so you do not need your own.

  • Can children come?

Yes. Climbing Tots is for 2 to 5 year olds, 4 to 13 year olds climb supervised by an adult, and 14 to 17 year olds can be signed off to climb on their own. There is a junior club too if they catch the bug.

  • How young can they start?

Climbing Tots takes 2 to 5 year olds, with a grown up alongside them the whole session. From 4, children can climb any time we are open as long as a responsible adult is supervising them.

  • Do I have to climb too?

No, but you do have to be there and watching. You do not need any experience yourself. One adult supervises up to [number of children, to confirm], and there is a short briefing the first time.

  • When can my teenager climb without me?

From 14, once they have been signed off. They climb with a coach who checks they know the rules and can look after themselves, and after that they can come on their own.

  • What is the difference between the clubs?

Junior Climbing Club is the weekly coached club, 5 to 7, 8 to 12 and 13 to 17 groups, £13 a session for the younger two and £16 for the oldest. Junior Academy is for young climbers who want to compete, by invitation, £16 a session.

A rainy Saturday, sorted.

Book an induction if you are new, or fill in the waiver and come down if you already climb.
